Handcrafted Naga Buddha Statue – Buddha Protected by Mucalinda

This Mucalinda Buddha Statue is handcrafted by master sculptor Bikash Khadgi, with the finishing completed by Gyanendra Shakya. Made using the traditional lost wax casting technique of Patan, Nepal, this statue portrays the well-known story of Shakyamuni Buddha being protected by Mucalinda, the king of the nagas, during a powerful storm. Inspired by the sacred Muchalinda Lake (Lotus Pond) in Bodhgaya, it is a meaningful addition to Buddhist altars, meditation spaces, temples, and sacred art collections.

This statue depicts the moment when Shakyamuni Buddha continued his meditation despite heavy rain and rising floodwaters. Mucalinda emerged from beneath the earth, coiled his body beneath the Buddha to lift him above the water, and spread his cobra hoods overhead to shelter him until the storm had passed.

The Buddha is seated in Dhyana Mudra (Meditation Gesture) with half-closed eyes and a peaceful expression. He sits upon a lotus base beneath the protective cobra hoods of Mucalinda, faithfully representing one of the most recognized stories in Buddhist tradition.

There is a fee for this service, offered as a respectful contribution to the monastery.
