Namgyalma Sacred Sculpture | Honoring Long Life and Purification

Namgyalma Sacred Sculpture measures 10.4”/26.5cm in height with a 10.0”/25.5cm base and weighs 3 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal, its copper body provides the foundation for a rich combination of 24K gold gilding, acrylic painting, and gemstone embellishments. A luminous layer of gold enhances the sculpted surface, while painted details introduce color and definition, complemented by the decorative accents of gemstones. The balanced use of these materials reflects the care and artistry of Nepalese Buddhist craftsmanship. Associated with longevity and purification, this sacred representation holds meaning for practitioners seeking to cultivate positive intentions and dedicate their lives to spiritual growth, making it a thoughtful addition to an altar or meditation space.

Namgyalma is depicted with three faces and eight arms, seated gracefully on an elaborately carved lotus pedestal. The central face has a serene expression with a third eye, while the two side faces turn outward. Her eight arms hold various sacred attributes, including a small Buddha figure, bow, arrow, and other ritual implements. She wears an elaborate jeweled crown, large earrings, layered necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and richly patterned garments. Her dark hair is gathered into a high topknot, while colorful gemstone details enhance the ornaments. The lotus pedestal features individually carved petals and intricate scrolling patterns, complementing the finely engraved details throughout the sculpture.

Namgyalma, also known as Ushnishavijaya, is one of the three deities of long life in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, alongside Amitayus and White Tara. She is said to have emerged from the crown protuberance (Ushnisha) of Shakyamuni Buddha to help practitioners overcome life-threatening obstacles and avoid negative rebirths. Her practice is deeply associated with the Ushnishavijaya Dharani, a powerful mantra used for purification, the accumulation of merit, and the extension of life for the benefit of all sentient beings.
