Description
Manjushri Buddhist Sculpture | Copper Embodiment of Divine Wisdom
This Manjushri Buddhist Sculpture measures 9.8”/25cm in height with an 8”/20.5cm base and weighs 1.66 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from an oxidized copper body, the sculpture features a naturally darkened finish that enhances the contours and finely worked surface while giving the piece a rich, traditional character. The controlled oxidation and precise metal craftsmanship reflect the skill of Nepalese artisans and the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist sculpture. Spiritually, the figure is associated with wisdom, clarity, insight, and the overcoming of ignorance, making this piece meaningful for Buddhist altars, meditation spaces, Dharma centers, or sacred collections.
This Manjushri is depicted as a youthful Bodhisattva of transcendent wisdom, seated gracefully upon a lotus throne. His serene face, gently lowered eyes, and youthful appearance represent the clarity and purity of awakened wisdom. His right hand holds a flaming sword, the blade symbolizing discriminating wisdom that cuts through ignorance, delusion, and mental obscurations. His left hand supports the stem of a lotus blossoming beside his shoulder, traditionally bearing the Prajnaparamita Sutra, representing the Perfection of Wisdom and the realization of emptiness. He is adorned with a five-jeweled crown, earrings, layered necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and flowing silk garments, while the lotus throne symbolizes purity and liberation. The sword, lotus, and sacred scripture, youthful form, peaceful expression, and Bodhisattva ornaments together define the traditional iconography of Manjushri.

Manjushri (Sanskrit: 'Gentle Glory') is a Bodhisattva associated with prajñā (transcendent wisdom) in Mahāyāna Buddhism. He is often depicted as a youthful figure, symbolizing wisdom's timeless and unblemished purity. Manjushri is considered the oldest and most significant Bodhisattva in the Mahāyāna tradition, serving as a spiritual father to all Buddhas and a guide for those seeking to develop wisdom and insight on the path to awakening.
