This majestic Thousand-Armed Chenrezig, also known as the Bodhisattva of Compassion, embodies the boundless resolve to alleviate the suffering of all beings. In this extraordinary iconography, he is depicted with eleven faces—each reflecting serenity or wrath—to symbolize his omnipresent awareness and ability to respond to the diverse needs of sentient beings. Draped over his shoulders is a deerskin, a traditional emblem of non-violence and gentleness, representing his kind and compassionate nature. At the center of his thousand hands, he performs the Anjali Mudra, a gesture of reverence and unity that embodies the inseparable harmony of wisdom and compassion. Among his many hands, one holds a mala (rosary), symbolizing the unbroken cycle of existence (saṃsāra) and continuous recitation of sacred mantras. His right hand also performs the Varada Mudra, a gesture of supreme generosity, and holds the Dharma Wheel, signifying the ever-turning teachings of the Buddha. His left hands carry sacred objects such as a fully bloomed lotus, symbolizing pure awakening, an arrow representing the piercing clarity of wisdom, and a vase containing the nectar of immortality.

Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteshvara, is a central figure in Mahayana Buddhism, revered for his compassion. He is often depicted with multiple arms, each representing a facet of his loving kindness and his readiness to provide help. His mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum, is one of the most widely recited in Buddhism, embodying the essence of compassion and wisdom. As a bodhisattva, Chenrezig embodies the ideal of postponing enlightenment to assist all beings in achieving liberation from suffering.
