Padmasambhava is depicted seated in royal ease posture (lalitasana), embodying confidence and serenity. In his right hand, he holds a vajra, symbolizing unshakable power and compassion. His left hand, resting in his lap, has a vase of immortality placed on a skull cup, signifying the transcendence of mortality and the elixir of enlightenment. Resting against his left shoulder is a khatvanga, a tantric staff representing his consort’s presence and mastery of esoteric wisdom.

He is adorned in colorful robes and wears his distinctive lotus hat, symbolizing his enlightened activity in the world. The lotus-petal base beneath him represents purity and spiritual awakening, arising unsullied from the mire of samsara.
