The Sacred Namtoshe Icon | Himalayan Nepali Artwork
The Sacred Namtoshe Icon stands 65 cm (25.6 inches) in height and 52 cm (20.5 inches) in width, weighing 10.91 kg. Expertly crafted from a copper body, it is adorned with a triple layer of 24K gold gilding, intricate gold and acrylic paintings, and accented with gemstones. The deeply engraved carvings create a magnificent 3D-like effect, highlighting the exquisite craftsmanship and artistry of skilled artisans. This remarkable piece embodies both spiritual significance and artistic mastery, making it a captivating addition to altars, meditation spaces, or sacred collections.
The deity sits majestically on a fiercely posed lion, symbolizing courage, strength, and mastery over obstacles, attributes of Bodhisattva Manjushri in Himalayan and Tibetan Buddhist art. Draped in intricately detailed royal garments and adorned with elaborate jewelry, the figure radiates spiritual authority and regal grace. The raised right hand holds a sword or performs a teaching gesture, cutting through ignorance, while the left hand rests in meditation or holds a lotus stem supporting a sacred text, denoting wisdom. Encircled by an ornate aureole with floral and mythic motifs, and crowned by a parasol above, the gilded composition embodies divine protection, enlightenment, and transcendent reverence.

He has two main personalities: warrior protector and wealth deity. In the 14th century, he was one of the primary protectors of the Gelugpa Sect in Tibet and he played an important role in the Tantra. In southern Asia, He is called Jambhala because he always carries Jambhala (lemon) in one of his hands. Though he possesses various attributes and forms, such as a sword, a banner, a lemon, and a flat vessel, among others, his most common attribute or emblem is a mongoose (Nakula).
