White Tara (also known as Dolma) is a Female Buddha in the Buddhist tradition. White Tara appears as a female bodhisattva and goddess, dedicated to benefiting every living being. According to mythology, she was created from Avalokiteshvara's tear, which dropped to the earth as he was overcome with sorrow for the suffering of sentient creatures. The tear formed a lake, and from its waters rose a lotus flower bearing the goddess. She, too, heard his sighs and chose to remain to assist him in alleviating suffering.
