Tilopa (988–1069 CE) was a great Indian Mahasiddha and the founder of the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. He is revered as the first human patriarch of this lineage, having received direct transmissions from Vajradhara Buddha. His teachings are encapsulated in the "Ganges Mahamudra" and "Six Doctrines," which emphasise direct, experiential realization of the nature of mind beyond intellectual constructs. He famously received his profound insights through direct revelation from Vajradhara and by learning from various human teachers.
