Handmade Samantabhadra with Consort Spiritual Sculpture | The Primordial Buddha

This Handmade Samantabhadra with Consort Spiritual Sculpture measures 8.4”/21.5cm in height with a 5.5”/14cm base and weighs 1.49 kg. Handcrafted in Nepal from an oxidized copper body, the sculpture features a naturally darkened finish that enhances the contours and finely worked surface while preserving the rich character of traditional metal craftsmanship. The balanced composition, controlled oxidation, and meticulous hand-finishing reflect the skill of Nepalese artisans and the enduring traditions of Himalayan Buddhist sculpture. Spiritually, the united form symbolizes the inseparability of wisdom and compassion, non-dual awareness, and the primordial purity of enlightened mind.

This intimate yab-yum representation embodies the primordial nature of awakened mind and the inseparability of wisdom and skillful means. Samantabhadra is seated in the full lotus posture upon a lotus throne, with his consort seated closely before him in sacred union. His arms encircle the consort, expressing the complete union of compassionate method and transcendent wisdom, while the consort raises her arms around him, reinforcing the non-dual nature of their realization. One raised hand of the consort holds a lotus, symbolizing purity and awakened wisdom. Both figures maintain a calm and contemplative presence, while their unified posture represents the inseparability of emptiness and awareness, wisdom and method. The detailed hair, facial features, lotus posture, and carefully modeled anatomy create a balanced composition, while the lotus throne beneath them symbolizes purity and the awakened state.

Samantabhadra with Consort originates within Indian Vajrayana Buddhism and later became especially important in Tibetan Buddhist traditions, particularly within the Nyingma school. The united form represents the primordial state of enlightenment and the inseparability of wisdom and compassionate method. Samantabhadra symbolizes pure awareness and the fundamental nature of mind, while the consort represents wisdom, with their union expressing non-duality beyond ordinary distinctions. Spiritually, this form is associated with primordial purity, awakened awareness, the unity of emptiness and compassion, and the direct realization of the true nature of mind.
