Description
Shakyamuni Buddha Oxidized Copper Statue | The Awakened Teacher
Shakyamuni Buddha Oxidized Copper Statue stands 18.1”/46cm in height with a 12.6”/32cm base and weighs 8.46 kg. Handcrafted by Nepalese artisans, the copper body is distinguished by an oxidized finish that gives the surface a rich patina and brings depth to the sculpted form. The restrained treatment allows the metalwork itself to take prominence, reflecting the care and skill of traditional Himalayan Buddhist craftsmanship. Honoring the historical Buddha, this sacred sculpture recalls his teachings on ethical conduct, meditation, and wisdom, offering a meaningful focal point for an altar or practice space and a reminder of the path toward liberation from suffering.
Shakyamuni Buddha is depicted seated in the traditional vajra posture on a richly carved lotus pedestal. The right hand extends downward in bhumisparsha mudra, with the fingertips touching the ground, while the left hand rests in the lap holding an alms bowl. The face has a serene expression with two gently focused eyes, a small urna, elongated earlobes, tightly curled hair, and a prominent ushnisha crowned with a simple finial. The monastic robes are carefully modeled with decorative engraved borders along the shoulders, chest, sleeves, waist, and lower garment, while the natural folds emphasize the seated form. The broad lotus pedestal features repeated carved petals and finely patterned borders, complementing the smooth oxidized copper surface and detailed ornamental carving throughout the sculpture.

Shakyamuni Buddha, born Siddhartha Gautama, is the historical founder of Buddhism and the primary teacher of our current age. After renouncing his life as a prince to seek a solution to the suffering of existence, he attained full awakening under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. His teachings, known as the Dharma, provide a path toward wisdom, compassion, and ultimate freedom from the cycle of rebirth, emphasizing the Middle Way between extremes.
