Traditional Shakyamuni Buddha Sculpture for Meditation and Devotion
This Shakyamuni Buddha Seated Sculpture stands 13.9 inches (35.5 cm) high upon a broad 10.8-inch (27.5 cm) base and weighs 4.69 kg. Handcrafted by skilled Nepali artisans, the statue is formed from an oxidized copper body and enhanced with carefully applied acrylic painting. The darkened finish creates natural tonal variation across the Buddha’s peaceful face, monastic robes, hands, and meditation seat. An elaborate arrangement of branches, leaves, and blossoms rises around the figure to form a decorative aureole, while the layered pedestal features a lotus throne, a centrally draped cloth, engraved borders, and elephant motifs on either side. These carefully modeled elements give the sculpture an impressive visual depth, making it a distinguished focal point for a Buddhist altar, meditation setting, teaching space, or Himalayan art collection.
Shakyamuni Buddha sits in the stable vajra posture with his right hand extending over his knee in the Bhumisparsha Mudra, or earth-touching gesture. This mudra recalls the defining moment beneath the Bodhi tree when he called the earth to witness his awakening and his victory over the challenges presented by Mara. His left hand rests in his lap in meditative equipoise and supports an alms bowl, representing renunciation, discipline, and freedom from attachment. The ushnisha above his head signifies awakened wisdom, while the elongated earlobes recall the princely ornaments he relinquished when seeking liberation. His gently lowered eyes and composed expression convey concentration, inner stillness, and complete awareness. Surrounded by blossoming branches and seated upon the elevated lotus throne, the historical Buddha offers a visual reminder of the path of ethical conduct, meditation, wisdom, and release from suffering.
