Shakyamuni Buddha is depicted in a calm, meditative state with half-closed eyes, embodying profound inner peace and an awakened presence. His right hand is in the bhūmisparśa mudrā (earth-touching gesture), signifying the moment he called the Earth to witness his enlightenment. His left hand holds an alms bowl, symbolizing renunciation and the simplicity of the monastic path. Atop his head rests the usnisa, representing supreme wisdom, while his hair is styled in snail-like curls, a reference to the well-known story of snails protecting him from the sun during prolonged meditation. He sits gracefully in the lotus posture on a moon disc lotus base, conveying stability, spiritual purity, and unwavering focus. This refined iconography honors the profound presence of the historical Buddha—serene, dignified, and deeply symbolic.

Siddhartha Gautama was born as the crown prince of the mighty Shakya Kingdom and nurtured to be a king in line with his royal father's aspirations. However, when he was around 29, he learned about people's tremendous pain in life. He abandoned his palace life and gave up his magnificent robes and gold to uncover the causes of this anguish and the means to alleviate it. After nearly six years of study, self-deprivation, and severe concentration, he achieved his aim. He had attained enlightenment (bodhi) and become a Buddha, or "Awakened One." He claimed to have then recalled his childhood name, Siddhartha, which means "One Who Has Achieved His Aim." From that point on, he was known as the Shakyamuni Buddha, meaning "Sage of the Shakya Clan."
