Shantarakshita was an influential Indian Buddhist scholar and master of Madhyamaka philosophy from the 8th century. Invited to Tibet by King Trisong Detsen, he played a pivotal role in establishing Buddhism there, founding Samye Monastery, and ordaining the first Tibetan monks. He is revered for synthesizing Indian philosophical traditions and for his profound contributions to Tibetan Buddhism, laying a strong foundation for its future development.
