Medicine Buddha, or Bhaishajyaguru, is the Buddha of healing and medicine in Mahayana Buddhism, particularly revered in Tibetan, Mongolian, and Chinese traditions. He is often depicted in deep blue, holding a myrobalan (aruna) plant, symbolizing all medicines, in his right hand, and a begging bowl filled with medicinal nectar in his left. His historical origins trace back to the Bhaisajyaguru Vaidurya Prabha Raja Sutra, in which he made twelve great vows to help beings overcome suffering, illness, and karmic impurities. His practice is believed to alleviate physical and mental suffering, purify negative karma, and lead practitioners towards supreme enlightenment and spiritual well-being.
