Palden Lhamo (Tibetan: dPal ldan Lha mo), meaning 'Glorious Goddess', is one of the eight Dharma Protectors (Dharmapalas) of Tibetan Buddhism and the only female among them. She is revered as a fierce protector of the Gelug tradition, the Dalai Lamas, and the city of Lhasa. Often depicted riding a mule through a sea of blood, she carries a skull cup filled with blood and a vajra-tipped staff, symbolizing her profound wrath against ignorance and delusion, and her compassionate vow to protect all sentient beings.
