Thangtong Gyalpo (1385–1464), known as the 'Iron Bridge Builder,' was a Tibetan polymath, siddha, physician, and pioneering civil engineer. He is celebrated for constructing numerous iron chain suspension bridges across Tibet and Bhutan, facilitating trade and pilgrimage. A revered master of the Shangpa Kagyu and Nyingma traditions, he also founded the Ache Lhamo opera tradition and composed many spiritual songs and teachings.
