Handcrafted Tilopa Sacred Statue | Embodying Wisdom

Tilopa’s sacred statue from Nepal emerges as a profound symbol of spiritual realization and meditative insight. Handcrafted by skilled Nepalese artisans, this beautifully detailed figure stands 7.87 inches (20 cm) tall with a 6.29-inch (16 cm) base and weighs approximately 1.77 kilograms. Fashioned from a durable copper body, its serene expression and balanced form radiate quiet reverence, making it a compelling piece of Buddhist art that enhances meditation spaces, altars, and spiritually inspired environments.

He is depicted in a meditative pose, symbolizing mastery of meditation and spiritual attainment. Handcrafted in Nepal, the golden appearance signifies enlightenment and purity, qualities closely associated with his teachings. He is shown holding a symbolic fish, representing unconventional methods of instruction and a deep connection to tantric practices. Intricate decorations, including delicate gemstones and detailed carvings, emphasize the sacred nature of the figure, while the base features traditional animal and floral motifs, enriching its artistic beauty and symbolic depth.

Tilopa was born into the priestly caste, which some traditions claim to be a royal family. Still, he chose to become a monk after receiving instructions from a dakini (a female Buddha whose purpose is to inspire practitioners) to lead a nomadic life. She made it abundantly plain to Tilopa right that the people who had raised him were not his true parents but rather the rudimentary knowledge and the universal voidness. Tilopa adopted a monastic lifestyle over time, following the Dakini's advice, adopting the monastic vows, and developing into a learned scholar.
