King Trisong Detsen, an 8th-century monarch of Tibet, is celebrated as one of the three great Dharma Kings instrumental in bringing Buddhism to Tibet. He famously invited the Indian masters Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) and Shantarakshita to his kingdom, leading to the construction of Samye Monastery, Tibet's first Buddhist monastery.
