Tsongkhapa (1357-1419) is a famous Tibetan religious philosopher. Tsongkhapa, a dedicated monk, took on the difficult effort of compiling and studying all of the Indian Buddhist classics available in Tibet during his time. In his famous form, wearing a tall, yellow hat, he represents the Gelugpa sect, which dominated Tibet until the Chinese took over in 1951 and whose de facto leader is the Dalai Lama.
