Description

Vajrapani Traditional Sculpture – A Radiant Embodiment of Spiritual Power and Protection

This Vajrapani Traditional Sculpture measures 11.2”/28.5cm in height with an 8.4”/21.5cm base and weighs 3.28 kg. The sculpture is formed from a copper body, which provides the detailed structure of Vajrapani’s dynamic figure, ornaments, flowing garments, and lotus pedestal. The surface is finished with 24K gold gilding, giving the figure and pedestal a rich golden appearance while highlighting the deeply worked ornamental details. Acrylic painting is carefully applied to the face, eyes, lips, eyebrows, flame-like hair, and other colored details, creating strong definition across the wrathful expression. Small gemstones are set into the crown, necklaces, armlets, and other ornaments, adding subtle colored accents to the gilded surface. The combination of finely modeled copper, gold gilding, detailed painting, and gemstone decoration reflects the meticulous craftsmanship of this traditionally made Vajrapani sculpture.

The sculpture depicts Vajrapani in a wrathful standing form with one face and two arms, shown in an energetic posture with both legs positioned dynamically above the lotus pedestal. His face has three eyes, sharply arched brows, a wide-open mouth with bared teeth and fangs, and pronounced red and blue facial details that emphasize his fierce expression. His hair rises dramatically behind his head in layers of red, orange, and dark blue flame-like forms. He wears an elaborate crown decorated with intricate ornamental elements and skull motifs, together with large earrings, multiple necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and other richly detailed ornaments. His right hand is raised above his shoulder holding a vajra, while his left hand is brought across the body holding a coiled lasso. Flowing scarves extend outward from his shoulders and arms, enhancing the sense of movement in the figure. His lower body is covered by a richly patterned garment with engraved borders and decorative motifs, while additional ornamental details are visible around his waist and legs. Beneath him is a broad lotus pedestal with layered lotus petals and decorative bands, providing the foundation for his dynamic stance. The combination of the raised vajra, lasso, wrathful facial expression, third eye, flame-like hair, elaborate ornaments, flowing scarves, dynamic posture, and lotus pedestal precisely defines the iconography presented in this Vajrapani sculpture.
