Vajrasattva originated within the Mahayana Buddhist tradition and later became especially important in Vajrayana Buddhism. His name means “Vajra Being,” referring to the indestructible purity and awakened nature of the mind. Early references appear in Indian Buddhist tantric literature, where he is closely associated with Vajradhara and the transmission of esoteric teachings.
