3. Garuda

Bird Form: Garuda can appear as a fierce mythical bird, spread wings and piercing gaze. The king of birds signifies that we "free" enlightened awareness that rises above the duality of worldly grasping. 

Serpents: Often the feet or claws of Garuda are wrapped in or squishing the serpents, symbolic of Garuda's mastery over the nagas and all deceptive aspects, illness, and harm. The mastery can also be interpreted as waking up ignorance and primordial fear.

4. Union Representation

The form of Trakpo Sumtril may be experience as a single composite deity, with the features of Hayagriva, Vajrapani, and Garuda combined. Vajrapani where the center body is formed, Hayagriva might present as a horse head exploding from his crown, and Garuda is shown either as the wings at the shoulders or avian face on the upper most head. Together, they emanate fierce energy to serve liberation.

Trakpo Sumtril is a wrathful Guru-Yoga practice where a practitioner embodies this union of Vajrapani, Hayagriva, and Garuda all at once, as a working embodiment of enlightened power and those who embody awakened nature in perfect union within the Great Samadhi, and the power to eliminate outer and inner obstacles. Vajrapani is blue and fierce, holding a vajra and lasso; above his crown sits Hayagriva's horse head, coloured green, serving as wrathful compassion and above him, swooping down comes Garuda, wings stretched wide, weighing down the poison and snakes and raising the obscurations. 

These 3 forms are not to be seen as external deities but as an integrated and either compassionate or reactive reaction, another way of expressing one's awakened nature. Practitioners initially take Refuge and Bodhicitta, before continuing into self-generation, vivid visualization and mantra recitation.
